After McQueen has gone

As I am sure many other writers and bloggers can relate to, the age old question arose for my first post on my new blog - What on earth should I write about?! So with that I decided to begin by expressing my admiration of Alexander McQueen's new Creative Director Sarah Burton, and the Spring/Summer '10 collection she showed at Paris Fashion Week.

The task was near on impossible - to create a collection that is innovative and forward thinking whilst not compromising the integrity of the late Alexander McQueen's label. In other words, Sarah Burton had to become the designer McQueen would be if he were still around today. And credit where credit is due, the girl did good.

The collection was composed of weird and wonderful crude materials such as bird feathers, straw and wheat, that were brought together to create pieces that were truly feminine and, dare I say it, completely British. Perhaps these pieces are not practical enough to be worn on a day-to-day basis - actually there is no perhaps about it - but this collection had a clear message and that was that we have not seen the best of Alexander McQueen yet. Lets just hope that the same amount of energy that was used to create these pieces can still be seen when they hit the stores.

An incredible amount of work must have gone into making these dresses, the belted detail on this black dress is DIVINE.
